Even though there’s no actual “recycle bin” on Android, you can delete unnecessary data on Android to fix issues related to speed and performance.

How to Empty Trash on Android

Method 1: Clearing your cached data

When you open any app on your Android, it will create new cache data. These data will use your local storage. Cache data is used to increase user experience by saving data locally to access them faster. Sometimes you have to clear this cache data because it may slow down your device. So follow these steps to clear cache data on Android.

If your device has a storage analysis option, then open it and then go to Cached data. Wait for some time. It will scan your device to find all unused cache data.

Once completed, delete all of your cached data and restart your phone.

You can also do it manually if you don’t want to delete cache data for all apps.

Step 1: Open Settings on your Android.

Step 2: Go to Apps > Select the app for which you want to clear the cache.

Step 3: Now click on the clear cache button, and it’s done.

Repeat this process for all apps.

Method 2: Delete Old Downloaded files

Check the download folder of your Android and delete unnecessary files and data. Sometimes we download files and just forget about them. Also, many games download data on your phone, but later it becomes unused. To find that data and remove it.

Also, if you have downloaded an offline map, then check it. Offline maps occupy a large amount of space on your phone.

Method 3: Uninstall unused apps

When you purchase a new Android phone, it comes preinstalled with many unused apps. As time passes, these apps got bigger and bigger with each update and use of space.

So it is a good idea to remove unused apps on your phone. Check all the apps installed on your Android phone and see if you are using them or not. If not, delete it.

Follow these steps to delete an app on Android.

Step 1: Open Settings on your Android and then go to Apps.

Step 2: Now, select the app that you want to uninstall.

Step 3: Click on Clear Data to clear all the space and data of that app.

Step 4: Then click on uninstall to remove it.

Repeat steps 1-4 to delete all apps and their data. Then finally, restart your device.

Method 4: Clear Cache For The Entire System

You can clear the cache data of all apps using the Storage & USB option.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Android and then go to Storage & USB.

Step 2: Now, in the Storage & USB, click on Internal storage to check the cache data of your system.

Step 3: Scroll down and find Cache data. Here you can see how much space is occupied by cache data. It will take some time to display the data according to its size.

Step 4: Now click on cache data and then click on clear the data.

Step 5: Click on OK to confirm the action. It will clear cached data on your Android and then clear up memory.

Method 5: Empty Trash From Within Android App

Many apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Gmail, and Google Drive allow users to clear cache in the app. These apps have separate options to clear cache data. Apps like WhatsApp allow you to free up space by deleting files from the WhatsApp folder. You can also manually delete data from the WhatsApp folder in local storage using the file manager app. WhatsApp stores all received and sent data in its folder, which is not required.

Method 6:  Remove Junk Files on Google Photos

Google Photos stores copy of your photos to your local storage for offline use. When you delete any photo in Google Photo, it will move to the Trash folder. Here, your photo will remain for 60 days. So for 60 days, it will use your storage space. You can delete all trash data manually.

Method 7: Clear Trash From Gmail On Android

Gmail allows you to clear the trash bin to empty storage on your phone. To permanently delete unnecessary emails, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the Gmail app on your Android phone and then click on the three-lined icon at the left corner to access the Gmail menu options.

Click on the menu button

Step 2: Now, click on the trash option.

Step 3: In the trash options, click on empty trash.

Step 4: Confirm the operation and click on delete. It will remove all trash data from Gmail App.

Method 8: Clear Trash From Whatsapp On Android

You can manually delete Whatsapp data and clear its trash on your Android phone. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Open your WhatsApp and then click on the three-dot icon located at the right upper corner.

Step 2: Click on settings and then choose storage and data.

Step 3: Then click on Manage storage. It will display all storage-related information. Under review and delete data, select the data that you want to delete.

Method 9: Use Google Cleanup App

Google has launched its best app to remove unnecessary files from your Android. It will delete the cache of your system and apps automatically. Also, you can delete duplicate files and remove unused apps using the Files by Google app.

Step 1: Open Google Play Store on your phone and download Files by Google app.

Step 2: Once installed, open the app and then allow storage permission so that it can access your files.

Step 3: Now click on the Clean tab. It will list down every file here. You can choose which file to delete.

Method 10: Delete the Backed-Up Pictures

If you are using Google Photos, it will create a backup of your photos to access them later without the internet. Google Photos allow users to delete saved photos to free up space.

Step 1: Open the Google Photos app and then click on the menu.

Step 2: Now click on Free up device storage and then click OK.

Step 3: Delete the full-resolution images and then restart your phone.
