Peter Jackson says Tintin sequel will be his next film

Peter Jackson says Tintin 2 will be his next film, with the script already written, years after the sequel missed its planned 2014–2015 release.

Peter Jackson plans to make Tintin 2 his next film, and he says the screenplay is already written. The sequel was originally promised for 2014 or 2015, a window that came and went.

Jackson discussed the project at Spain’s Sitges Film Festival, an event focused on fantasy, horror, and cult cinema. “We’ve also already written the script for Tintin 2, the second Tintin film. That will be the next film I make,” he said.

That follows his comments in May, which ended years of silence about the sequel. At the time, Jackson confirmed that a version of the screenplay was complete and that he was still attached to direct.

Jackson produced Steven Spielberg’s 2011 film The Adventures of Tintin, and the two filmmakers later confirmed that he would direct the follow-up himself.

Belgian cartoonist Hergé wrote and illustrated the original The Adventures of Tintin comics, which ran in France from 1929 to 1976. The series follows Tintin, a Belgian reporter, and his dog Snowy. Spielberg’s adaptation centered on their search for treasure from the Unicorn, a legendary naval warship.

Peter Jackson provides updates on The Lord of the Rings projects

For The Lord of the Rings, Jackson reported that The Hunt for Gollum has roughly two weeks of shooting remaining. The Shadow of the Past is at an earlier stage, with work continuing on its screenplay.

Andy Serkis is both directing The Hunt for Gollum and reprising the title role. The next Lord of the Rings movie takes place before The Fellowship of the Ring, with Gandalf sending Aragorn to track down Gollum. Its release is scheduled for Dec. 17, 2027.

Meanwhile, The Shadow of the Past picks up 14 years after Frodo’s departure from Middle-earth for Valinor. Sam, Merry, and Pippin revisit the opening stretch of their adventure, with Stephen Colbert and Philippa Boyens developing the script. Earlier reports suggested that the Paramount and Warner Bros. merger had put the movie at risk, but Jackson rejected that claim and confirmed that the writing is still underway.
