Google Cloud outage may have caused Revolut’s service disruption

Revolut users in Hungary lost app and banking access on October 20. A Google Cloud outage in London may be linked to the disruption.

Revolut customers in Hungary lost access to the app and its main banking functions on Tuesday morning, October 20, as several Google Cloud services experienced problems in the company’s London region. The Google Cloud outage may have caused the disruption, though the available reporting doesn’t identify the technical failure.

The timing suggests a possible link. According to fintech publication Revb, citing Google’s status page, the cloud incident began at 23:08 PDT (Pacific Daylight Time, UTC−7) on October 19, 2026. That corresponds to exactly 8:08 a.m. in Hungary on October 20, when Hungarian users began noticing service problems.

The disruption reached beyond Hungary and personal accounts. Customer reports indicated that Revolut Business had also stopped working completely. A few hours after the problems began, Revolut said the disruption affected several functions and warned that some services might be unavailable.

Other UK banks reported service interruptions around the time Revolut became unusable. HSBC, Bank of Scotland and Lloyds were also affected, according to the reporting, which cites Reuters. The overlapping outages alone do not prove that they all had the same cause.

Revb adds that, if Google Cloud really caused the outage, that could also explain why Revolut’s website wasn’t updated and why the company communicated about the disruption only through social media.

This was Revolut’s third customer-facing system problem in October. On October 8, the bank reversed earlier transactions; a few days later, customers ran into problems with card payments.
