Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis will lead DC’s animated Mister Miracle
DC’s animated adaptation of Mister Miracle has cast Josh Hutcherson as the voice of Scott Free and Mackenzie Davis as Big Barda. Tom King wrote all eight episodes, drawing on his 2017-2019 run of the comic.
Peter Safran, co-head of DC Studios, announced the casting during an interview with IGN. Hutcherson’s credits include The Hunger Games, and he’s also familiar from internet memes. Davis, whose past work includes Station Eleven and Happiest Season, plays Scott’s wife, a warrior.
Safran called the script “dynamite” and spoke warmly about the comic it draws from as well as the adaptation: “It’s a beautiful book and the adaptation is fantastic, so we’re excited about that.”

King’s screen work also includes recently co-creating Lanterns. He’s one of the architects James Gunn has brought in to shape the new DC Universe.
Another of King’s comics has already made the move to film: his acclaimed 2021 miniseries Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow became a 2026 movie. The adaptation, however, drew considerably less praise than the comic.
The story of Mister Miracle sees Scott and Barda’s life on Earth upended by a war between worlds. At the same time, a threat could be working its way into Scott’s mind.
The show’s official synopsis from DC reads:
“No prison can hold him. No trap can contain him. He is Scott Free, the worldwide celebrity sensation known as Mister Miracle, and he is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. But can he pull off the ultimate trick – and escape death itself? Something has gone horribly wrong with the perfect life that Scott and his warrior wife Big Barda have built for themselves on Earth. With war raging between their home worlds of Apocalypse and New Genesis, Scott’s cruel adoptive father, Darkseid, seems to have finally captured the Anti-Life Equation – the ultimate weapon that will give Darkseid total dominance over the universe. As the mountains of bodies on both sides grow ever higher, only Mister Miracle can stop the slaughter and restore peace. But the terrible power of the Anti-Life Equation may already be at work in his own mind, warping his reality, exposing his long-buried pain, and shattering the fragile happiness he’s found with the woman he loves. And so, begins the odyssey of Scott Free, Mister Miracle: a harrowing, hilarious, heart-wrenching journey across the pitfalls of the ordinary and extraordinary as the son of God raised by the devil tries to save his family, his world, and maybe even himself.”
Warner Bros. and DC continue to support The Batman Part 2
Safran also addressed the halt in production on Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part 2. Reeves temporarily left the project over a “family matter,” bringing filming to a stop earlier this month. A restart date hasn’t been announced. That uncertainty has prompted some to worry that the already long-delayed sequel won’t make it to screens at all.

When IGN asked whether filming might not resume, his answer was “No.” Robert Pattinson had recently offered a similar reassurance while on the red carpet for his new movie, Primetime. There, he said that “we’re going to figure it all out.”
Safran also confirmed that work has begun on the Absolute Batman animated series, which is in early development as Scott Snyder writes scripts. James Gunn, Safran’s fellow DC Studios co-head, hasn’t yet decided on his next directing project. Gunn has, however, said that he’s begun writing something new.
