Daily Red gives Pokémon battlers a new opponent each day: Red, facing a team of six randomly assigned Pokémon from Generations 1–3. This fan-made browser game borrows Wordle’s daily-challenge format, but the puzzle is tactical. You’ll need to use your team to defeat Red.
Red’s team stays the same: Pikachu, Espeon, Snorlax, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise, the lineup he uses when players encounter him on Mt. Silver in Johto. Facing the same team each day can help players get more familiar with it over time. Unlike Wordle, success depends on planning and battling, not deducing an answer.
Before committing to the daily battle, players are advised to study their assigned team, weigh its strengths and weaknesses, and choose which Pokémon to lead with. They can try a practice battle first and keep practicing after the official battle, but the result is then locked in.
The goal is to beat Red and start a winning streak. Players can’t currently create an account to save their progress, which is stored locally in the browser instead. After a battle, they can share a results grid with friends or on social media. A loss produces red squares showing how many of Red’s Pokémon fainted; a win produces one green square for each of the player’s Pokémon that didn’t faint.
Daily Red uses Generation 3 rules. Its FAQ explains what sets that ruleset apart and offers tips for beating Red. Players can also practice in Pokémon Showdown, which has a range of advanced settings they can customize freely.
