Glimpse has developed software that lets battery manufacturers inspect cells 10 to 30 times faster by boosting throughput on their existing CT scanners. This boost in efficiency enables manufacturers to scan tens of thousands of battery cells daily, a massive increase from the few they currently manage. Glimpse’s upcoming “super scanner” is set to complete these scans in just one or two seconds, making it a significant advancement.
That’s not all. To expand its reach beyond batteries, Glimpse is launching a new product called Explore. This offering will cater to various industries, including aerospace, automotive, electronics, and medical devices. With Explore, companies can use Glimpse’s image processing software to speed up quality control checks in their labs and development environments.
Glimpse currently has over 100 customers, including Anker, Lucid, and the U.S. Navy, and generates revenue in the mid seven-figure range, according to CEO Eric Moch. Customers include both buyers and sellers of batteries.
A key factor behind Glimpse’s efficiency is its proprietary image processing pipeline, which compresses and cleans up scans. Built on deep learning algorithms, this pipeline processes much of the data on edge computers at customer sites, handling the heavy lifting before sending results to the cloud. This ensures that images load within seconds in a web browser, eliminating the frustrating wait times that can stretch for minutes or even hours with traditional systems.
The software enhances image clarity and provides essential metrics. For instance, when inspecting batteries, it can measure the distance between layers in a cell. If any measurements deviate from the norm, Glimpse’s software will flag these discrepancies and highlight them in the scanned images. This feature helps users visually identify critical defects, enhancing their ability to tackle quality issues proactively.
For customers without their own CT scanners, Glimpse offers a service where they can ship parts to the company. Glimpse will utilize its own CT scanner in the Boston area and plans to open a second Scan On Demand center in the San Francisco Bay Area. This service makes quality control accessible without the hefty investment in equipment. Customers can expect to spend a couple hundred bucks or a few thousand dollars on Glimpse’s services, providing a cost-effective alternative until they’re ready to invest in their own scanners.
