Another day, another increase in gaming prices

Starting in September, gamers in the United States will see an increase in the price of the Nintendo Switch 2, moving from $450 to $500. This adjustment reflects a broader trend of rising costs within the gaming industry that players are currently experiencing.

Nintendo attributes this price hike to shifting market dynamics and a challenging global business environment. The company stated, “In response to changes in market conditions, and after evaluating the global business outlook, Nintendo will adjust the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) for the Nintendo Switch 2 system and Nintendo Switch systems in Japan.” They anticipate that these adjustments are not likely to be temporary and may persist in the medium to long term. This suggests that similar price increases could also be seen in areas outside Japan, indicating possible global price modifications.

Additionally, it is expected that Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions will also face a price increase, although the company has yet to provide specific figures or timelines for these changes. This situation adds to the frustration of customers who are already contending with rising living costs.

Nintendo expressed its regrets, stating, “We sincerely apologize for the effect these price adjustments may have on our customers and other stakeholders.” However, many remain skeptical about the chances of any price reductions, even if the economic situation improves. With the gaming industry still dealing with inflation and supply chain issues, affordable gaming seems increasingly out of reach.
