Telekom anticipates billion-dollar savings by deploying AI everywhere

Deutsche Telekom expects to save around 1.1 billion euros gross by 2027 through increased use of AI and automation in its operations outside the United States. This forecast was shared during the company’s AI Investor Day in Bonn. The telecommunications giant is particularly focused on implementing AI in areas with a high volume of repetitive tasks, including network operations, customer service, software development, and administrative processes.

In the U.S., customer service calls have already dropped by 50%, with AI agents now managing 40% of customer relations. For example, the “Frag Magenta” chatbot handled approximately 2.6 million customer service calls in the first half of 2026. This chatbot is just one way the company is using technology to enhance customer interactions.

The technology also assists in various areas, such as early detection of mobile network overloads, supporting customer service representatives, improving software development, and replacing outdated IT systems. The company expects revenue growth from AI usage, particularly due to the rising demand for European sovereign AI. A key element of this is the Munich-based Industrial AI Cloud, which enables companies to run industrial simulations and AI-based processes.

Alongside operational applications, the company is launching new services for residential customers. One standout offering is the Magenta AI Assistant, which can translate mobile phone conversations in real time, summarize their content, and answer questions. These features are designed to improve the user experience while providing valuable tools for everyday communication.

Deutsche Telekom’s focus on AI is not just about cost savings; it’s also about reshaping customer interactions and operational efficiencies. With AI agents handling a significant portion of customer relations and the introduction of innovative tools like the Magenta AI Assistant, the company is working to enhance user experiences while addressing the complexities of network management and service delivery.
