Longford House is where three siblings and a longtime family friend are summoned to navigate an inheritance dispute. The estate holds something far more terrible than paperwork left behind by the dead, and its abyssal gaze is fixed squarely on the heroes.
This is the setup for Sagas of Sundry: Darkling Gate, a brand new, original eight-episode TTRPG actual-play video podcast from Geek & Sundry. It brings Jane Austen’s polite social world into contact with H.P. Lovecraft’s cosmic horror, where Regency social drama confronts terrors beyond human comprehension. The story uses Chaosium’s Regency Cthulhu sourcebook for Call of Cthulhu to tell an ever-evolving, terrifying tale.
The story is set in the English countryside in autumn 1816, during the historical period called the Year Without a Summer. The inheritance dispute draws the characters to Longford House, where a supernatural danger emerges. At its heart is a question: what if the imaginary worlds people made as children became real and tried to take them back by any means necessary?
Paula Deming (Grey’s Anatomy, Things Get Dicey), Noura Ibrahim (Vampire: The Masquerade – LA By Night, Faster Purple Worm Kill! Kill!), Nicole Maines (Yellowjackets, Supergirl), and Oscar Montoya (Minx, Dimension 20) make up the cast. Ross Bryant (Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Improvised Shakespeare Co.) is the Keeper of Arcane Lore, leading a story that may strain the cast’s collective sanity to its limit, and perhaps the audience’s as well.
Regency romance, occult rituals, dangerous family secrets, ballroom hijinks, and ineffable nightmares lurking on the edge of reality all feature in the story. Its tone is described as hilarious, heartbreaking, and haunting.
The first episode arrives Monday, October 19, and subsequent episodes are scheduled for Mondays. Each Wednesday, the cast gathers for Quests N Answers, a companion roundtable about the latest episode and its psychological impact. Episodes will be available on Geek & Sundry’s YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other podcast platforms.
