Meta aims for your next device to feature Muse technology

Meta is changing how we engage with AI by incorporating its personal assistant, Muse, into a fresh array of hardware solutions. This development features the introduction of Muse Gadgets, an open-source project that allows developers to build devices that seamlessly connect to Muse. Muse serves as a personal AI agent that organizes travel, completes forms, and makes purchases on behalf of its users.

To support developers, Meta is providing key resources, including open-source firmware and a Linux software development kit (SDK), enabling them to realize their innovative projects. This initiative invites you to explore technology and create distinctive devices that enrich the Muse experience. To inspire creativity, Meta has proposed several project ideas that showcase the adaptability of Muse Gadgets, such as equipping Muse with a color e-ink display or installing it on a stick that connects to a TV’s HDMI port.

Users can also set up an affordable hobbyist computer like a Raspberry Pi or an off-the-shelf ESP32 board and connect Muse to displays, buttons, sensors, actuators, and whatever else is on the workbench. For those in need of assistance, Meta has created a Discord channel to support creators within the community.

Meta’s foray into hardware is more than merely theoretical. Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, unveiled a prototype known as Muse Home Link. This USB-C-powered device enables Muse to connect to a home network and communicate with smart devices such as speakers and TVs. Meta produced 5,000 of these Home Links, distributing them for free to Muse subscribers while supplies last. Friedman’s announcement regarding Home Link garnered nearly 30,000 views within hours, indicating that many have already secured this innovative gadget.

Friedman also noted that Home Link would be ready for shipment in a few weeks. While Muse Gadgets might not attract a wide audience, they align well with Meta’s comprehensive strategy to evolve Muse beyond a standalone chatbot. The company is clearly committed to integrating Muse into daily life as an all-encompassing personal assistant platform.

In addition to hardware advancements, Meta is enhancing Muse’s functionality for businesses. Recently, the company launched Muse for Small Business, a variant of the AI agent that connects with widely-used tools like Shopify, Dropbox, and Slack. This version is free with usage limits, making it accessible for small businesses eager to optimize operations with AI assistance.

Meta has also launched a new division called the Meta Enterprise Platform to push its AI offerings to businesses and corporate clients.

The drive for Muse to integrate with various hardware platforms signifies a transformation in our perception of personal assistants. Meta aims for Muse to transcend being merely an app; instead, it’s positioning it as a multifaceted personal assistant capable of interacting with a diverse range of devices, from smart home technology to enterprise software.
