According to the rumors, we can expect remarkable upgrades in terms of graphics performance.
Rumors about a PS5 Pro have been circulating for a while. Therefore, if you haven’t purchased a PS5 yet, you might consider waiting a few more months.
It is said that Sony could release a powered-up “Pro” version of the console as early as this year. While solid and reliable information is scarce, the whispers of a PS5 Pro continue to grow louder.
We only have evidence regarding the PS5 Pro’s existence from Serkan Toto, a gaming industry analyst at Kantan Games. Toto recently informed CNBC of his belief that a redesigned PS5 might be planned for release in late 2024. This speculation is partly based on Sony’s decision to lower its sales forecast for the upcoming fiscal year, which may indicate a potential need to renew the PlayStation brand soon. This prediction corresponds with Sony’s previous trends within the PlayStation lineup. Notably, the PS4 Pro was released in 2016, three years after the PS4’s debut. Late 2024 would then be four years since the PS5 first hit the market. As the PS5 approaches the later stages of its life cycle, launching the PS5 Pro in 2024 might be the most logical timing.
Let’s talk about the price. Without confirmation of its existence, we can only speculate based on Sony’s pricing strategy for the PS4 Pro. The PS4 Pro launched at $399, the same price as the original PS4 three years earlier. Sony might lower the price of the standard PS5 and introduce the Pro version at $499, the current price for the PS5 with a disc drive in the U.S. Complicating matters is that Sony slightly increased the PS5 price in various markets towards the end of 2022. Sony now faces the challenge of setting a reasonable price for the PS5 Pro without causing significant financial losses.
Sony has previously updated the PS5 after its first release, introducing a slim model late last year that made the console somewhat shorter and thinner while maintaining the basic design. In contrast, a potential PS5 Pro would likely be larger than the already sizable standard PS5. This increase in size is typically necessary to accommodate enhanced performance capabilities.
According to the controllers, when Sony introduced the PS4 Pro, it kept the PS4’s standard DualShock 4 controller unchanged, as there were no necessary modifications. It is reasonable to expect Sony to follow a similar approach with the PS5 Pro.
