Billie Doe discovers she’s a witch only after her newly unleashed magical abilities send her from suburbia into Hexe, a vast witch realm filled with magical creatures and powerful beings. Disney’s first full trailer for Hexed frames the journey as a consequence of adults keeping important information from their children, even when they mean well.
Voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, Billie is an impulsive, unconventional teenager. Hexe is beautiful but dangerous, and her cautious mother, Alice, has tried to keep her away from it. Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, is a fellow witch. Once Billie arrives, she’ll have to learn quickly to stay safe.
Billie gets help from Beef Roger Crummchuk, a reclusive, magical three-eyed cat voiced by Walton Goggins. Disney’s synopsis says Billie and Alice are forced to team up and uncover family mysteries that could change the world of witches forever.
Fawn Veerasunthorn, whose credits include Wish, directs with Jason Hand, whose credits include Moana 2. The script is by Jared Bush, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Dana Ledoux Miller. Tracey Ullman and Stephen Fry also star.
Hexed is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 25. The trailer offers only a glimpse of the larger story, so whether parents should tell their children they might be secret witches will have to wait until the film is out.
