Rockstar Games is making waves with the announcement of GTA 6, featuring a groundbreaking Criminal Profile system that tracks players’ criminal behavior. Set to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, players classified into four behavior categories – Professional, Aggressive, Violent, and Psycho – will experience different NPC reactions based on their Criminal Profile.
Professional, Aggressive, Violent, and Psycho
According to TGG, who attended a private presentation, the Criminal Profile serves as a moral gauge akin to the honor system from Red Dead Redemption. Players will be classified into four categories: Professional, Aggressive, Violent, and Psycho. Those who indulge in chaos to an extreme degree will enter a fifth, unnamed category, marking a breakdown of the morality meter. Rockstar is clearly targeting the most reckless players with this challenge.
Achieving this extreme state is no easy feat; it aims at players who consistently flout the game’s moral guidelines. Once they cross this threshold, the game stops tracking their actions for that session.
Interestingly, the system does not penalize players who enjoy chaos in the classic GTA style. Players can turn off notifications related to the morality meter, enabling them to wreak havoc without facing moral scrutiny. Players can turn off morality meter notifications, allowing them to ignore the Criminal Profile system entirely.
The Criminal Profile also takes into account the context of players’ actions. For instance, if a player robs a store and kills an armed defender in self-defense, this will have a lesser impact on their moral standing. However, a random shooting of an unarmed store clerk or unnecessary escalation will shift the profile towards the Violent and Psycho categories.
Another intriguing aspect is the unique Criminal Profiles for main characters Jason and Lucia. Players can shape their personalities differently; one might act with calculated precision while the other descends into chaos. Yet, the extent to which these profiles will affect the game’s narrative or endings remains unclear, reminiscent of the mechanics in Red Dead Redemption 2.
This new system aligns with Rockstar’s broader strategy to weave more role-playing elements into GTA 6. Additionally, the dynamics of Jason and Lucia’s relationship will be monitored through a separate system, adding complexity to gameplay as players navigate both the criminal underworld and personal relationships that could influence their journey.
With excitement building for GTA 6, players can look forward to a multifaceted experience that challenges traditional gameplay mechanics.
