Analogue revives its SNES and Genesis consoles with upgraded models

Analogue’s $219.99 Super Nt+ and Mega Sg+ revive SNES and Genesis gaming with hot-swappable cartridges, wireless controller support and USB-C power.

Analogue’s Super Nt+ and Mega Sg+ let you swap cartridges without turning off the console. The upgraded Super Nt and Mega Sg also add wireless controller support and USB-C power, prioritizing convenience over a jump to 4K: output still tops out at 1080p.

Each console costs $219.99, with pre-orders opening Monday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. ET. Orders will start shipping this December, so delivery before the holidays is possible, but not guaranteed.

Like their predecessors, the new models use FPGA technology to read original cartridges and display 16-bit games in high definition on widescreen displays. Analogue’s hardware provides an alternative to aging original consoles for playing decades-old games. The company previously launched the Super Nt and Mega Sg in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

Both models connect to Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz wireless controllers.

The Super Nt+ supports over 2,200 SNES and Super Famicom cartridges and works with the original controllers. The Mega Sg+ reads over 2,180 cartridges originally released for the Sega Genesis, Mega Drive, Master System, Game Gear, Mycard Adapter and SG1000. It also supports their respective wired controllers, along with the Sega CD.

Each console includes two cartridge cleaners for wiping down games before you insert them. If you need more, additional cleaners are available from Analogue’s store.

Controllers aren’t included with either system. To play, you’ll need an original controller, a compatible wireless controller, or one of the 8BitDo controllers sold separately by Analogue for $29.99.
