Shrek 2 Remastered is borrowing a page from Rockstar’s trailer playbook: its official reveal gives the ogre the cinematic treatment associated with Grand Theft Auto 6. Aspyr developed the remaster, which arrives Nov. 10 on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
After years of Rockstar Games turning GTA 6 trailers and updates into major events for fans, that dramatic style makes for an unusual introduction to Shrek. The announcement follows last month’s achievement leak and an early Xbox Store listing that revealed the remaster’s upgrades.
What to expect from Shrek 2 Remastered
Before Aspyr’s remaster, Shrek 2 was a Luxoflux-developed, Activision-published action-adventure platformer adapting DreamWorks Animation’s hit 2004 film. Its journey takes players through Shrek’s swamp, Fiona’s castle, and the kingdom of Far Far Away, mixing scenes from the movie with sequences created specifically for the game.
You can play as Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and other familiar characters, fighting enemies and working through platforming challenges. Where the original offered local co-op for up to four players, the remaster lets up to four players team up online. That may be the biggest addition.
The remaster adds sharper textures, upgraded cutscenes, 4K resolution, and an improved user interface. Photo Mode is new, too, as is Cheat Mode, which lets players modify their experience.
The release also comes ahead of Shrek 5, which is expected in 2027. That puts this return to the series’ early-2000s era before the ogre’s next trip to theaters.
