At roughly 15 seconds into a new trailer for Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, Dark Link makes a brief entrance by flipping onto Link’s sword. The antagonist has challenged Link, the series’ silent hero, in several games.
With launch a few weeks away, Nintendo has released two new trailers. Alongside Dark Link’s appearance, the first includes scenes of Ganon at the piano, Link aboard a pirate ship, and dungeon battles against various enemies.
Nintendo’s Japanese YouTube account uploaded the second trailer, which turns its attention to the ocarina, the Master Sword, and exploring Hyrule.
The Ocarina of Time remake balances nostalgia and modern ideas
The remake faces scrutiny from two directions: fans of the 1998 original, regarded as a classic, and players whose experience is limited to newer games it influenced. Polygon’s assessment so far suggests Nintendo is managing to meet both sets of expectations.
Gameplay previews published this week offer an early look at that balance. After around 30 minutes with the remake, Polygon’s Michael McWhertor praised both its visuals and how it plays. “The remake is both incredibly impressive graphically and the game now plays better than ever,” he wrote in his hands-on preview. “One impression of the remake remained consistent throughout my hands-on time: Nintendo’s new Zelda is snappy, streamlined, and polished in ways that make it feel totally fresh.”
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launches on Nov. 5 for Nintendo Switch 2.
