Control Resonant sold 1 million copies in three weeks, reaching the milestone faster than Alan Wake 2. Profitability remains uncertain.

Control Resonant has passed 1 million copies sold in three weeks, less than half the time it took Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake 2 to hit that mark. That doesn’t settle whether the game is profitable yet.

Released on Sept. 24, the action RPG drew largely positive reviews from critics. The sales announcement came through Remedy’s social media, alongside a message to players: “Thank you for the support ❤️ For playing, sharing, and being a part of the community.”

In 2023, Alan Wake 2 needed about two months to reach 1 million sales, putting it behind the sequel’s initial pace. Comparisons beyond Remedy paint a more mixed picture. September also brought The Blood of Dawnwalker, which sold 1 million copies in just two days. Still, Remedy can count its strong performance as progress without equaling the launch sales of every other game.

How quickly copies sell isn’t the same as whether a game makes money. More than a year passed before Alan Wake 2 became profitable. If Control Resonant gets there sooner, it could help Remedy grow more steadily. The announced figure doesn’t show whether the sequel has earned back its costs or how well it will keep selling.

In Control Resonant, the follow-up to Remedy’s 2019 game Control, Dylan Faden explores a distorted New York. His work for the Federal Bureau of Control runs alongside his search for Jesse, his missing sister and the first game’s protagonist.

Elsewhere, Remedy is collaborating with Rockstar Games on remakes of the first two Max Payne games. The studio had also been developing a project under the codename Kestrel, but it was canceled in 2024.

More Control Resonant content isn’t confirmed, but it’s possible. The original Control received post-release additions, and the sequel has plenty of loose plot threads suitable for DLC. An Easter egg in the game also hints at an eventual Alan Wake 3.
