With Matt Reeves attending to an ongoing family matter, Steven Soderbergh will step in for the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part 2. According to Deadline, Reeves and Soderbergh will work together closely to keep the footage consistent with Reeves’ vision. Once Reeves is ready to return, he’s expected to oversee post-production.
Soderbergh, an Oscar-winning filmmaker whose films include Ocean’s Eleven and Traffic, offered to help after praising Reeves’ direction of 2022’s The Batman.

“I thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent,” Soderbergh said in a statement. “The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”
The London shoot was temporarily halted earlier this month so Reeves could attend to his family matter. DC Studios acknowledged the pause and voiced its support for him.
Returning cast members are Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. Joining the cast are Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch.
Little about the plot has been made public. For his connected Batman films and The Penguin spinoff series, Reeves uses the umbrella title “Batman Epic Crime Saga.”
It’s unclear whether the filming pause will affect the release date. The Batman Part 2 is still scheduled for theaters on Feb. 18, 2028, almost six years after the first film opened in March 2022.
