Steam Next Fest returns on Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. EDT and runs until Oct. 26, but some free demos are already available on Steam, including Ace & Aro: Heart-to-Heart and Fallgrade. Polygon’s writer calls Fallgrade visually striking.
The October edition is Steam’s third Next Fest of 2026, following events in February and June. Held a few times a year, the PC demo event sees developers upload free demos for their upcoming games to Steam. Polygon expects plenty to sample in October, given how packed the February and June editions were.
Among the confirmed games is Emberville, which Polygon’s writer describes as looking like the next great take on Stardew Valley. There’s also Drunken Goddess Reflux, a Russian Roulette drinking game that has already amassed over 500,000 wishlists and that the writer calls tantalizingly strange.
We Are So Cooked is a multiplayer game about hiding dead bodies with your friends. Polygon’s writer is personally looking forward to trying the demo.
Discovery is central to Polygon’s enthusiasm for Steam Next Fest. Its writer prefers sampling a wide variety of games to spending the year focused on a handful, arguing that the medium is too varied to overlook its stranger offerings. They see the event as an ideal way to find upcoming curiosities. After hands-on time in June, Penguin Colony and Over The Hill became two of Polygon’s most anticipated indie games of the fall.
February’s event introduced that writer to Denshattack!, Titanium Court, and Vampire Crawlers, all three of which now sit near the top of their 2026 game-of-the-year list.
Polygon says it will sift through October’s demos and highlight discoveries during the event. It also plans to share some of its favorite demos in Wishlister, its free weekly newsletter about upcoming Steam games worth adding to your wishlist. Readers can subscribe to get those picks sent to their inbox.
