Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Returns With a New Hall of Fallen Foes

Nintendo’s Switch 2 remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time adds the Hall of Fallen Foes, where players can replay boss fights and chase personal best times.

King Dodongo is ready for a rematch in Nintendo’s Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The new Hall of Fallen Foes lets players revisit powerful enemies, turning a museum of defeated monsters into a place to practice boss fights and chase a personal best time.

Nintendo revealed the feature in an extended overview video released Wednesday, alongside new previews of the game. The Hall displays statues of monsters you’ve beaten in a museum-like setting, each with a placard offering details about the creature. Exhibits for powerful foes, including dungeon bosses, also let you replay their battles. King Dodongo is the example shown in the video.

The Nintendo 3DS remake of Ocarina of Time had a similar Boss Challenge mode. Polygon’s Michael McWhertor describes the Switch 2 version’s expanded, bestiary-like approach as a welcome improvement, particularly for collectors. The Hall combines monster statues and creature information with another chance to tackle demanding encounters.

This feature joins streamlined controls, extensively overhauled visuals, Zelda Notes, and enhanced ocarina support in Nintendo’s second remake of the Nintendo 64 classic. With release just a few weeks away, the overview also offers a broader look at the bosses, dungeons, and non-player characters returning in this version.

The footage comes with a spoiler warning, even for a game that’s nearly 28 years old. The nearly five-minute video includes glimpses of Gohma and Volvagia, plus other key characters. McWhertor recommends it to anyone interested in seeing how Nintendo has changed the game’s appearance, though players who want to discover those redesigned encounters for themselves may prefer to skip it.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 on Nov. 5.
