How to start “The Scarecrow” in Valor Mortis
In Chapter 3 of Valor Mortis, “The Scarecrow” sends you to help a dead soldier tied to a cross in a farmer’s field. The quest begins in the Fallen Village, which you reach shortly after defeating General Lothaire and traveling through the Abandoned Church.
Take the right-hand path behind the Fields Lantern and look to your right for the scarecrow. Examining the corpse reveals that its necklace is missing and its pocket is torn. You’ll need to track down two belongings.“The Scarecrow” quest walkthrough in Valor Mortis
Collect the Lover’s Pendant
You won’t have to travel far for the Lover’s Pendant. Behind the scarecrow, a soldier’s body lies at the base of a tree. Loot that body to retrieve the first missing item.
Reach the house and find the Letter With a Drawing
The other belonging requires a detour. Continue along the Fallen Village’s main path until it brings you back to the Fields Lantern, and shoot the glowing orb. Your destination is the creepy house up on the hill. The item is inside, but you can’t enter through the locked front door.
To get around the house, defeat the elite Risen Grenadier, then continue down the road behind him. Once you reach the haystack field, leave the main road, which turns right, and head left instead. You’ll reach the house’s back entrance.
Inside, head upstairs. The desk beside the bed holds the Letter With a Drawing, the second quest item. You can also collect three hand grenades. Before heading back, remove the bolt from the downstairs front door to make a shortcut to the Fields Lantern. Return to the corpse and place both recovered items on it.
Follow the crows to the final memory
Despite William’s belief that the scarecrow is now at peace, there’s still one step left. Quickly check the sky after placing the belongings: a murder of crows leaves the scarecrow and heads toward the field behind the house.
Take their route through the house to the field, then find the building on its right side. Its scaffolding gives you access to the upper floor, where watching the woman’s memory finishes “The Scarecrow.”
Your quest rewards are 6,500 catalysts and the Bountiful Harvest amber. There’s another amber to pick up before you go: the first-floor treasure chest contains Volatile End.
