Robert Pattinson says production on The Batman Part 2 is paused “for a little bit,” but he expects the team to work through the interruption. Asked about the sequel at the U.K. premiere of his new film, Primetime, he told Pop Drop, “We’re going to figure it all out.”

His comments are reassuring, but they don’t say filming is ready to resume. DC Studios said production was halted because director Matt Reeves needed to step away for a “family matter.” Neither Pattinson nor the studio has announced a restart date, so it’s unclear how long the pause will last.
The film is still slated for release on Feb. 18, 2028. Reeves’ absence hasn’t prompted a change to that date, though the sequel has already faced several delays and missed its initial Oct. 2025 release by a mile. The recent Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Skydance merger has also raised questions about the future of several projects.
Plot details remain under wraps. Set photos have fueled speculation that the Court of Owls will play some role, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
Pattinson will return alongside Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred. The newcomers named for the film are Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent, Scarlett Johansson, and Charles Dance. Johansson’s and Dance’s roles haven’t been specified.
Is Pattinson the DCU’s Batman?

No. James Gunn leads the new DC cinematic universe, but there’s still no sign of Batman in its projects. Reeves’ first Batman film came out before Gunn became head of DC Studios and wasn’t planned as part of the new universe. Gunn has said it was Reeves’ choice not to include his films in the new canon, so Pattinson isn’t the DCU’s Batman.
The DC slate includes The Brave and the Bold, a Batman-centered film in early development, according to Deadline. Existing DC projects have also made passing references to Batman, including an offhand mention in an episode of HBO’s Lanterns.
