Brandon Sanderson Provides Official Update on Stormlight Archive

Brandon Sanderson is personally interviewing showrunner candidates for the *Stormlight Archive* series on Apple TV. In a recent chat with Collider, he revealed that he has personally “interviewed a bunch” of candidates, underscoring his commitment to bringing in “high-caliber” talent for the project.

Although Sanderson will be writing the series, he acknowledges that he will likely need a writing partner. He will also serve as a producer and reportedly has final approval on projects through his deal with Apple for the rights to his Cosmere universe.

Sanderson wants the fantasy world to feel less like a renaissance fair and more like a real world. He emphasized that a core idea of fantasy is for readers to feel immersed in a believable story. “When you read a fantasy, one of the key ideas is that while you’re between those pages, you’re able to believe that this is a real story,” he noted. That realism will require a big budget – Amazon Prime’s *The Rings of Power* has set the record as the most expensive television series ever made.

In addition to *Stormlight Archive*, Sanderson is also developing a film adaptation of his original *Mistborn* trilogy, starting with *The Final Empire*, published in 2006. While he is looking for a writing partner for *Stormlight Archive*, he is taking the reins on the *Mistborn* project himself. He recently completed the first draft of the script but acknowledged that many drafts will still follow.

*Ghostbloods*, due in 2028, will begin the third era of the *Mistborn* series. Additionally, Sanderson’s *Skyward* is slated for adaptation by the team behind Netflix’s live-action *One Piece*.
