ChatGPT can now help you virtually try on clothing

OpenAI has unveiled two new shopping features for ChatGPT, including a way for users to virtually try on clothing and accessories. This announcement came on Thursday, marking a significant advancement in how AI can improve online shopping experiences.

The virtual try-on feature allows users to upload a selfie or a full-body photo to see how a clothing item or accessory would look on them. You can also submit an image of an item, such as a screenshot from a website, and ask ChatGPT to try it on for you. This feature is accessible through a “try on” button in ChatGPT’s shopping results.

The second feature is called Favorites. This lets users save products they discover by adding them to a Library within the app, making it simple to revisit items later. The saved products will be stored alongside the images generated from the virtual try-on feature.

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT can assist users in other shopping-related ways as well. You can describe a specific style you’re interested in, and ChatGPT can help you find the pieces needed to complete that look. Additionally, if you upload photos of celebrities’ outfits, the assistant can identify and locate the items they’re wearing that are available for purchase.

This development positions ChatGPT in competition with platforms like Pinterest and Google, which have long been dominant sources for fashion inspiration and product discovery.

These updates reflect OpenAI’s ongoing experimentation with its conversational AI assistant, enhancing the online shopping experience. The technology behind the virtual try-on feature utilizes the newly launched ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, which improves natural lighting, texture richness, and responsiveness to editing requests.
