Audible’s new features allow exploring book worlds and chatting with

Audible is stepping up its game in the audiobook market with three new features designed to enhance the listening experience. These additions come as a response to increasing competition from platforms like Spotify. On October 1, 2026, Audible will introduce three new features that allow listeners to explore a book’s characters, engage in interactive stories, and view additional imagery and bonus information.

New Features

Character Guide

It can be tough to remember who’s who when listening, and this new feature aims to simplify that process. With the upcoming release of “Dracula,” the character guide will show who is speaking in real time directly on the player page. It will also include spoiler-free character cards that highlight the narrator and provide their biography. Soon, users will even be able to interact with this guide, asking questions about the unfolding story.

Other titles set to feature the character guide include the Audible Original of George Orwell’s “1984” and the forthcoming “Exoplanet” by Benjamin Percy, produced by Andy Weir.

Interactive Stories

This feature, also debuting with “Dracula” and “Exoplanet,” aims to immerse listeners deeper into the narrative. Using generative AI, listeners will interact with characters, such as Renfield from “Dracula.” The character will initiate the interaction by presenting the listener with a role, goal, and stakes, to which the listener responds in their own words. The character will react to these responses in real time, enhancing engagement and making the storytelling experience more dynamic.

Creators are involved in developing these interactive stories to ensure they remain true to the original narratives. This means audiences can expect a rich, authentic experience grounded in each book’s context.

The rising demand for audiobooks can be attributed to several factors, including the proliferation of smartphones and busy lifestyles that make traditional reading less practical. This trend is reflected in the growing popularity of genres like fiction, sci-fi, thrillers, and romantasy, closely linked to the influences of communities like TikTok’s “BookTok.”

Rachel Ghiazza, Audible’s Chief Content Officer, expressed excitement about these new features, stating, “These new features invite listeners into a story in ways that simply weren’t possible before, marking the latest step in our nearly 30-year journey to push audio storytelling forward.”
