The Generation Raised with A.I. Dislikes It

Surveys reveal a troubling trend among young adults: a growing dissatisfaction with artificial intelligence, a technology they have known all their lives. A study from May 2026 found that 71% of Generation Z views AI as harmful to their lives. Despite being the first generation to grow up alongside these technologies, many harbor concerns about AI’s influence on their personal and professional spheres.

The study highlights that 61% of Gen Z respondents believe AI is disrupting their job opportunities. As automation increasingly claims entry-level positions, these young adults face anxiety about their employment prospects. The rapid evolution of AI intensifies their worries, leading them to question their future in a job market increasingly dominated by machines.

The emotional toll of AI’s constant presence is also significant. Research shows that 64% of participants feel overwhelmed by AI’s integration into their daily routines. From social media algorithms to virtual assistants and automated customer service, Gen Z perceives a loss of control over their experiences. This sentiment is echoed by 54% of those surveyed, who believe AI negatively affects their mental health.

Opinions on AI’s impact on education are mixed. While some acknowledge the convenience it brings, a significant 55% express doubts about its reliability and accuracy. Many of these concerns stem from personal experiences where AI tools failed to meet expectations, prompting a return to traditional learning methods.

Even with their familiarity with technology, young people are craving more human interaction. A clear desire for authentic experiences emerges, with 68% of respondents wishing for deeper personal connections rather than digital ones. They envision work environments that foster collaboration and creativity, unencumbered by AI’s influence.

As the divide between technological advancement and human experience widens, addressing this generation’s concerns is essential. The dialogue surrounding AI’s impact on their lives is just beginning. With 55% of Gen Z advocating for greater transparency in AI decision-making, they are eager to shape how these tools will affect their futures.

The ongoing struggle to balance technological integration with human connection raises an important question: how can society ensure that advancements in technology serve the needs and aspirations of a generation raised in the age of AI?
