007 First Light will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on March 18, 2027, developer IO Interactive announced Wednesday. The young James Bond adventure now has a firm date on Nintendo’s hardware after several delays, following its May release on other consoles and PC.
The team is using the extra time to improve the Switch 2 version’s performance. “The development team will use the coming months to continue refining the game’s optimisation and performance on Nintendo Switch 2, ensuring it meets the standard players expect at launch,” IO Interactive said in its news release.
Getting to that date has taken several delays. The game was postponed once before its May launch on other platforms. A month before that release, the Switch 2 edition slipped to summer 2026. Another delay last month moved it to March 2027; this announcement confirms the day. Polygon’s Austin Manchester expressed hope that the version wouldn’t face another postponement.
Alongside the release details, IO Interactive announced a GoldenEye-themed extra. The 007 First Light – Deluxe Edition will cost $69.99, and anyone who preorders will get early access to the new GoldenEye Suit. The Switch 2 version will also include gold gadgets and four skins for Tacsim missions: Day of the Dead, Desert Explorer, Silent Anchor, and Gentleman Operator.
The Amazon-exclusive 007 First Light – Specialist Edition includes an exclusive Classic Tuxedo skin. Its physical Switch 2 release will use a game-key card, a format Polygon notes is common for third-party physical releases on the platform.
For those waiting for the Nintendo version, this is Bond’s origin story, not an adventure starring an established 007. Players guide him through his 00 training and into his first globe-trotting mission. Polygon praised IO Interactive’s reinvention of the character, highlighting playful touches such as an action-montage tutorial and a bow tie minigame.
Manchester describes First Light as one of 2026’s best games, citing its strong critical reception and standing among contenders for the year’s Game of the Year award. Switch 2 owners will have to wait until 2027 to play it on Nintendo’s portable hardware while IO Interactive continues refining its performance.
