iPhone dev team has come up with the first public beta release to jailbreak iPhone OS 4 tool Redsnow 0.9.5 for Mac OS X users. This beta release of redsnOw is targeted towards developers of jailbreak apps.It uses pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit and it won’t work to jailbreak Apple’s iPad.
Tutorial To Jailbreak iPhone 3G OS 4.0 With RedsnOw 0.9.5 On Mac OS X
Below is the tutorial to jailbreak iPhone 3G OS 4.0 with redsnOw 0.9.5 on Mac OS X.
#1 Download and install iPhone OS 4.0 on your iPhone 3G mobile first.
#2 Download and install redsnOw 0.9.5 on your Mac OS X from here.
#3 Launch the beta redsnOw 0.9.5 first.
#4 Select stock iPhone1,2_4.0_8A230m_Restore.ipsw file (you have already it to update to iPhone3G to 4.0beta1).
#5 Select “Install cydia” and click next. Use DFU mode to install jailbreak on iPhone.
#6 When your iPhone 3G comes back, you will notice blank white icon and you will see that cydia has no source. You can change the source to http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7
After cydia restarts you will able to see original logo and all the standard sources are ready to use.

Hey, I already downloaded the full os4, not the beta, on my 3g. Is it too late to run redsnow?

No it is not late. Redsnow 0.9.5 beta 5 works well on iOS 4 final. Same tutorial applies for it.
