iPhone Got Hit By Worm Again-But This One Is More Serious

by Ricky on November 23, 2009

Oh my God!!! iPhone jailbroken phones got struck again with new malicious worm. According to the cnet news this time the iPhone worm is more serious and its effect is severe. Few days back we heard that jail broken iPhone struck by “ikee” worm which was harmless. The ikee virus struck to only those jail broken iPhones whose default password has not been changed after jail broking.

The new unnamed worm works much like a PC botnet, it uses command-and-control panel. The new iPhone virus configures two start-up script, one script used in the boot-up to upload the worm and other used to pass the stolen data to Lithuanian server to hackers.

The new worm spreads across various large IP ranges which are located at Netherlands, Australia and many more countries.One of the most serious symptom of affected iPhone is that this worm is consumes lots of battery when connected to the Wi-Fi network as it generates lots of network activity.Developers also suspects that this worm is one of the Banker Trojan which steals the personal and sensitive information like bank password. It looks for authentication system which is know as mTANS. It also changes the default password “alpine” which makes users life more miserable.

Currently there is no solution found for this worm. It affects the iPod as well. It is recommend to upgrade to legal firmware from Apples website. Once again I would like to repeat that this worm affects jailbroken iPhone and iPhode only.

its best to update the firmware to the latest version and have a legal copy of it, hackers mostly takes advantage of illegal copies and outdated and unsupported versions of softwares and firmwares,

Sorry to hear about your iPhone worm.

I’ve been pretty lucky that my iPhone has been completely secure so far.

As far as I’m concern, the problem is not caused by jailbroken software (BlackRa1n or BlackSn0w) but iPhone users itself who have installed OpenSSH and not changed the default password. Correct me if I’m wrong.

@steppinout
Well You are partially correct. The reason for this worm is not known yet. But the ikee worm has affected only those iPhone who hasn’t changed their default password after jailbreaking :smile:
