According to senior malware analyst the company scan about 500,000 unique url per day and out of them 100 to 1000 are malware attacks. Most of the url leads to spam websites that are related to marketing and online dating websites.

About 26 percent posts contains URL and many of them leads to spam websites related to marketing products. Although the twitter has its own filtering system which effectively eliminates all the malwares and other suspicious links but it failed to update the system frequently.

This news is shocking as many users complaining that they have been victim of phishing attack. If your account has been compromised then read the post on “how to restore the hacked twitter account“.

For additional precaution it is advisable to update your antivirus or use kaspersky antivirus. If you are browsing from Firefox or IE then you can also download Finjan’s secure browser security add-on.

You can also check http://twitter.com/account/connections for the presence of third party application and disable all untrusted applications. If you have been victim of such case then you can report it to twitter spam center. Hope that kaspersky notifies all such links to twitter spam center so that then take care of such incidents.
